What I would do to grow your legal business.
I have spent over a decade helping legal businesses grow. This is what I would actually do if I were starting or growing a law firm, estate planning business or legal service provider today. Take it, use it, implement it. Most people will not, and that is where we come in.
Get clear on who you help and what makes you different
Most legal businesses try to be everything to everyone. It rarely works. The businesses that grow fastest are the ones that decide, out loud, who they help best and why anyone should pick them over the firm down the road.
Write it in one plain sentence. Not marketing waffle. Not a mission statement. A sentence that a real client would recognise and a competitor could not honestly copy.
Do this yourself
Sit down for two hours and write your one-line positioning. Test it on three clients who love working with you. Rewrite it based on what they say back.

A one-day Marketing Strategy session gives you a written positioning and messaging framework you can use across every channel. Learn more →
Build a website that actually converts
Most legal websites are digital brochures. They describe what the firm does but they do not help a nervous first-time visitor decide to make contact. That is the difference between a website that costs money and a website that makes money.
The best legal websites do three things well: they answer 'is this for someone like me?' within three seconds, they build enough trust to warrant an email, and they make contact effortless. Nothing else really matters.
Do this yourself
Look at your homepage on a phone. Read the first screen out loud. If a real client would not say 'yes, that is me' within ten seconds, rewrite it today.

Claim and optimise your Google Business Profile
For any local search, your Google Business Profile decides whether you appear in the map pack. That is the three-listing box that sits above the regular results. For most legal search queries, that is where the clicks go.
Claim your profile. Fill in every field. Add real photos. Choose the right primary and secondary categories. Post regularly. Reply to every review. This is unglamorous work, and it is one of the highest-return things any legal business can do.
Do this yourself
Log into Google Business Profile today. Add ten photos. Pick a better primary category. Post one update. That took twenty minutes and it will pay off for years.

Start generating Google reviews systematically
Reviews are the single fastest trust-builder in legal marketing. They also feed local SEO, they show up in your search snippet, and they influence AI search tools that scrape them for reputation signals.
The problem is not that clients would not leave reviews. It is that most legal businesses never ask systematically. Fix the ask, and the reviews follow.
Do this yourself
Pick your last ten happy clients. Send each one a personal email today with your review link. Do that every week for the next quarter and watch your Google profile transform.

Sort out your basic SEO
You do not need to be an SEO specialist to fix the basics. Every legal business page needs a real title tag, a real meta description, a proper H1, and internal links to the pages that matter most. That alone lifts most legal sites significantly.
Add specific service and location pages. If you cover conveyancing in Sheffield, have a page called 'Conveyancing in Sheffield' with real content that answers real questions. Not a page called 'Our Services' with a paragraph of platitudes.
Do this yourself
Run your top ten pages through Google's Search Console. Look for pages with impressions but no clicks. Rewrite the title and description. Watch the clicks appear.

Build a personal brand on LinkedIn
For most legal professionals, LinkedIn is the single most valuable social platform. Your future clients, referrers and staff are already there. The question is whether they hear from you.
You do not need to post daily. You do not need to become a thought leader. You need to be visible, credible and consistent. One useful post a week beats twenty forgettable ones a month.
Do this yourself
Rewrite your LinkedIn headline and about section this week. Post one useful thing every Tuesday morning for the next quarter. See what happens.

Create content that answers real questions
The content that works for legal businesses is the content that answers the questions clients actually type into Google. Not clever branded think-pieces. Practical answers to real questions.
Write those answers as pages on your own site, not just as social posts. Own the content. Repurpose it into short videos, LinkedIn updates and newsletter sections. One good article can do the work of ten.
Do this yourself
Write down the five questions you get asked most often on discovery calls. Write a proper article answering each one. Publish them one a week for five weeks.

Set up a system to capture and follow up on every enquiry
Most legal businesses lose more revenue through weak follow-up than through weak marketing. An enquiry lands in an inbox, someone means to reply, two days pass, the prospect has already chosen someone else.
A basic CRM with a follow-up sequence closes that gap. It also gives you the data to see which channels are generating enquiries and which are wasting your time.
Do this yourself
Audit your last twenty enquiries. How many did you respond to within an hour? Within a day? Whatever the answer, you can improve it this week with almost no cost.

Make yourself visible in AI search results
AI search is not the future. It is already how a growing chunk of your prospects find information. ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews - all of them are answering legal questions today, and all of them are choosing which businesses to reference.
You cannot pay to appear in AI answers. You have to earn it, through structured content, clear entity information, authoritative citations and a website that AI tools can actually parse.
Do this yourself
Search for your firm and your area of law on ChatGPT and Perplexity. See what they say about you. If the answer is 'nothing much', you have work to do.

Get consistent and track what is working
Every business owner knows the theory of consistency. Few live it. Marketing rewards the businesses that keep going long after the initial enthusiasm has worn off.
Track a small number of numbers. Enquiries per week. Booked calls per month. Google Business Profile calls. LinkedIn profile views. Nothing exotic. Look at them every week. Adjust based on what you see.
Do this yourself
Put a weekly recurring diary appointment in for 20 minutes to review your marketing numbers. Nine out of ten legal businesses will not do this. That is why the tenth grows faster.
